EPIC: the largest vertical garden in Brazil, at 1,300 m²

The vertical garden at Edifício EPIC, by developer Construtora Diagonal in Fortaleza (CE), covers 1,300 m² continuously and was delivered in July 2026. It was built by Plante Jardins Verticais with the modular P20R system and irrigation monitored station by station.

How we measure “largest”

  • What we measure: continuous living vertical garden area — one build, one irrigation system. That is 1,300 m² by design measurement.
  • Our survey: we compare with the vertical gardens in Brazil that have a public record, and we do not publish other projects' figures without a source we can cite.
  • If you know of a larger one, write to us and we will check. Last reviewed: October 2026.

In plain language

1,300 m²of living wall, end to end, with no construction seam.
≈ 20,800seedlings planned in the design (1,300 m² × 16 plants per m²).
≈ 354mature trees: what the garden equals in carbon capture (about 7.8 t of CO₂ per year). “Equals”, not “replaces”.

How we calculate: 6 kg of CO₂ per m² per year (Charoenkit, 2016) divided by 22 kg per mature Atlantic Forest tree (Embrapa, 2018). It is a design estimate, not an on-site measurement.

How it stays alive

A vertical garden rarely dies all at once: it dies quietly, when an irrigation station stops and nobody notices. That is why EPIC is read station by station. On 23 August 2026 the monitoring found eight stations that had stopped watering without anyone seeing it on site, and they were switched back on the same day. The technology is Plante's own and has been registered with INPI (the Brazilian patent office) since 30 May 2023.

“The industry delivers the garden, takes the photo and leaves. Our work starts afterwards — because a vertical garden doesn't die all at once, it dies in silence.”

— Jhones Santos, CEO of Plante Jardins

Who made it

The composition is inspired by “A Paisagem” by Ceará artist Aldemir Martins, and by the sea waves and dunes of Fortaleza. Everyone involved is from Ceará.

Frequently asked questions

What is the largest vertical garden in Brazil?

The one at Edifício EPIC in Fortaleza (CE): 1,300 m² continuous by design measurement, delivered in July 2026 by Plante Jardins Verticais.

Who built the EPIC vertical garden?

Plante Jardins Verticais e Paisagismo LTDA, from Eusébio (CE), with the modular P20R system. Landscape design is by Rafael Ferreira, landscape architect and urbanist; the building's architecture is by Daniel Arruda. The developer is Construtora Diagonal.

How many plants are in the EPIC vertical garden?

About 20,800 seedlings planned in the design: 1,300 m² times 16 plants per m². It is a design estimate, not a plant-by-plant count.

How is the EPIC garden irrigated and monitored?

By a Rain Bird LXME2 controller with 36 zones dedicated to the garden, and by Plante's own system, which continuously reads the state of every station and keeps the history.

When was the EPIC garden delivered?

In July 2026, in Fortaleza (CE), Brazil.

How much does a vertical garden like this cost?

It depends on size, region and the system chosen, so quotes are made per project. Contact Plante on WhatsApp for a tailored proposal.
